Clapton Country Club wedding – a super laid back, super summery (groom in shorts!) wedding with TWO ceremonies!
Philippa and James decided to have two wedding ceremonies to make their wedding personal to them both. They started the day with an intimate morning legal ceremony with close family at Stoke Newington Town Hall before heading off to the funky Clapton Country Club for a humanist handfasting ceremony with all their family and friends. They even had time for a quick stopover in Clissold park in Stokey for some sunny couple photos – considering we were in the middle of a heatwave I thought it best to shoot their couple pictures before the day got way too hot, so after their morning ceremony was the perfect time.
Philippa and James made sure their Clapton Country Club wedding was tailored to them as a couple, detailing how they met, their lives together and hopes for the future, finishing with a hand fasting. Since the day was starting to get even hotter, James stuck out his wool wedding suit until the end of their group photos and then dived straight into t-shirt and shorts mode – he confessed he lives in shorts and t-shirt from April onwards most years, so this was how he felt most comfortable, and I love the fact that it was his wedding day didn’t change that! Since Clapton Country Club is next to a mini brewery, guests were able to try homemade wedding beer and spend the afternoon hanging out in the sun before heading off for dinner, speeches and card games.
Philippa’s beautiful vintage cake topper is a family heirloom and her father baked their wedding cake, so it was a real pleasure to be able to photograph these details for them, and I had loads of fun shooting their personalised and relaxed Clapton Country Club wedding – I hope to be back there again!
